Arsenal are currently locked in a transfer battle with Liverpool for the transfer of Luis Suarez. Liverpool are unwilling to let the striker leave for anything less than £ 55 million. After making an initial bid of £ 30 million, the North London club recently increased their offer to just over £ 40 million. However, this is also yet another failed attempt by Arsenal to get the man who scored 30 goals in all competitions for Liverpool last season. Despite signing strikers like Lukas Podolski and Oliver Giroud only recently, it is thought that Wenger sees Suarez as a vital link towards Arsenal finally winning the league title after nine years.
Arsenal last success in the Premier league came in 2004 when they managed to win the trophy after winning unbeaten throughout the season. Even though Suarez has become a highly controversial figure wherever he has been, he has also been a very good player. Wenger, though, has softened Arsenal’s interest in the 26-year-old by saying that he believes that the club will be able to win the title even without the Uruguay striker. The Emirates cup will be taking place next weekend, and Wenger thinks that there will be no transfer activity in the coming week.
“We are ready to do quick deals but all the transfers do not depend only on us. But we are prepared to wait. It looks unlikely before the Emirates Cup. We still have a strong squad but we are there on the market to try to strengthen our team. With or without additions we can be title challengers next season. He must explain that. I don’t know. We are not close to signing Suarez or anybody else so there’s no reason why I should talk about it,” said the Frenchman in the much talked about Suarez transfer.
