Premier League side Arsenal could look inwards for depth as they mount a serious league title challenge and feature in the Europa League tournament – which could stretch the travel plans of the team.
The pre-season afforded Arsene Wenger the chance to show off some of the youngsters at the club.
Goalkeeper
Matt Macey could get more games under his belt this season if Emi Martinez decides to go out on loan. The keeper is desperate for game time so he could move out elsewhere. With Wojciech Szczesny off permanently to Serie A champs Juventus, Petr Cech and David Ospina are the only senior men in the goalkeeping department. Ryan Huddart is on loan at Eastleigh so the youngster is clear to take the third spot behind the experienced shot stoppers.
Defense
Krystian Bielok has the height and he is versatile. He can play in centre back, defensive midfield and holding midfield. The player could support Gabriel, Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi. He was on loan at Birmingham City recently so he should be ready to step up in supporting capacity at least.
Midfield
The Gunners have a decent prospect in Joe Willock. He paired with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the middle during the preseason but he was in defensive role when he played alongside Aaron Ramsey in the Emirates Cup. The 17-year old could provide valuable support in the EFL Cupor in faraway games in Europe when the team is stretched.
The former factor worker turn pro footballer Cohen Bramall has been growing through the ranks since moving to the Emirates. The 21-year old is pacy and has since developed decent technical capability. While he could go out on a loan spell, he should continue with the Under-23 setup with the hope of making a few appearances in the senior side.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles, 19, has been described as the back-up to senior squad member Francis Coquelin. If Oxlade-Chamberlain exits, the youngster could play backup to Hector Bellerin as a wing-back.
Forward
Reiss Nelson’s name is making the rounds in the market already. After the club lost Chris Willock to a Portuguese side, the 17-year old winger should not be allowed to leave. There have been calls that he goes out on loan for further development but he is one youngster that Wenger can work with. The smooth playing natural dribbler can add impact to the attacking side.
